The HTC Droid DNA has been in the US market for about a fortnight and we just saw its international version, theButterfly going public over the weekend. However, now we are hearing whispers of HTC already planning to launch its successor, called the M7 (probably an internal codename) in the first quarter of 2013.
Many sources state that HTC is working with casing and semiconductor suppliers to acquire components to make as many as 5 million units of HTC M7 in Q1 of 2013. Specifications of the mystical HTC M7 remain sketchy but HTC Source has gathered some dope and it does sound like a flagship Android smartphone.
According to the report, the HTC M7 will feature a 5-inch 1080p HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ8064) quad-core processor, a uni-body shell made of aluminum and a 13-megapixel camera.
The rumored swift launch of the HTC M7 goes against HTC’s usual launch time-frame as the Taiwanese smartphone vendor usually showcases its new devices at Mobile World Congress, which will be held in the last week of February and their devices hit the European market in the second quarter.
If HTC does get the M7 to market early then it could give them an advantage and allow HTC to regain their market share from Samsung. It remains to be seen is if HTC M7 does help HTC to regain their footing in the mobile market.
