LG could launch Optimus G2 in May 2013 with a 1080p display: Report

1080p displays in smartphones are the talk of the town and it appears LG is gearing up to join the party in May 2013 with a successor to the recently launched Optimus G. Slash Gear reports that LG could be planning such a device with a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, a faster quad-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz, 2GB of RAM and a 8-megapixel camera or one with even a higher megapixel count.

All this is planned right when Samsung could launch the successor to the Galaxy S III or sometime after it is launched. As we already know Samsung could be fiddling with its own 1080p resolution smartphone coupled with a faster quad-core Exynos processor, so the timing seems perfect for LG to ruin the party of its South Korean brethren.

Additionally, HTC has already launched the Droid DNA in the US, which has a 5-inch 1080p display and is expected launch its international variant soon, so HTC will have a head start on both companies. Having said that the 1080p resolution will not go mainstream till Samsung and LG also come up with devices trotting the 1080p resolution.
