After releasing Windows Phone 8 it appears that Microsoft is doubling down on features that it did not manage to add in the OS as it ran out of time. The Verge reports that this update is known as Apollo Plus and it will be a point update and will not be a major release. The update is expected in Q1 of 2013, which is not very far away.
Microsoft will basically add some minor features that it did not have time for and will probably bundle a number of bug fixes. This will also be the first time Microsoft deploys an OTA update so it will be interesting to see if the company manages to pull it off in a proper non-fragmented fashion.
Apart from this, the update is expected to add a Wi-Fi fix that allows connections to remain on all the time and VPN functionality is also expected. Microsoft could make some minor improvements to the audio experience of Windows Phone 8, but the entire purview of the update is still not known.
One feature that everyone is looking forward to is a dedicated notification center something to which Microsoft also admitted at Build that it ran out of time. It remains to be seen if the company pushes this feature in the Apollo Plus package considering it is supposed to be a minor update which should hit devices soon.
